Bookings can be made all over the world as long as it is safe. Currently in 2026 the Germanfest band “Bergvagabunden” does not play e.g. in Russia, Ukraine, Israel, USA.
German Fest in Milwaukee
German Fest is an ethnic festival held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, at the Henry Maier Festival Park on the Lake Michigan lakefront. The idea for the festival came about when Mayor Henry Maier challenged the local German-American community to organise a German festival during a speech on 20 May 1980 at the 20(th) anniversary of the German American National Congress (DANK). Shortly afterwards, Walter Geissler, who was then President of D.A.N.K., set up a five-person committee to lay the foundations for the festival. The German Fest charter was subsequently written in January 1981. The first German Fest took place in August 1981 and is billed as the ‘largest German celebration in North America’ and ‘a Milwaukee tradition’. It currently takes place during the last full weekend in July.
As of 1993, 52% of Milwaukee’s population claimed German descent, the largest percentage of any major US metropolitan area. German Fest celebrates the culture, food, travel, and history of Germany, as well as those of Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, South Tyrol, and German-speaking communities around the world.
One attraction is the cultural tent, where visitors can see various groups that proudly call themselves ‘German’, including former and current provinces. A parade showcasing 38 German-American heritage organisations, local German immersion schools and others celebrating their German heritage periodically passes by in the centre area of the grounds. German cuisine is also featured at German Fest, with German restaurants and food services in the area present, including Mader’s and the Schwabenhof, as well as the largest sauerkraut producer.
